ADULT: Wingspan up to 20mm.  A variable species with forms that can have a greyish white ground colour almost hidden behind a greyish suffusion or the wings can have a ground colour of pale yellow brown to ochreous with varying grey areas. The costal blotch is bluish black and can be intense or fairly inconspicuous. Very similar to  A. comariana and so, in many instances dissection is required. LARVA: Larvae feed during the months and May and June among spun leaves of Hawthorn, Willows and various Rosaceous trees and shrubs. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light in small numbers.  HABITAT: Parks, gardens, hedgerows and woodland edges. FLIGHT PERIOD: August to September. STATUS: Common in most areas.
